How to Update Drivers on Windows 10

Just like human beings need vitamins and proteins to stay fit and healthy, computers need to update their drivers to work properly, which optimizes the working experience in a computer. Updating a driver in a system can be tricky as there is no clear information about its update. And if drivers fail to work, the user’s working experience can be compromised. So before knowing about how to update its drivers, some basics about windows and drivers are needed to be known.

Operating system – Windows

Computers need an operating system that controls the entire functions of a PC. An operating device in a computer provides users with a lot of features like- providing an interface with a graphical representation of user interfaces; read and writes files loaded in the system; it helps the computer to load and run any program installed in it. The operating system can be compared with the brain of humans as it sees the functions of its components and allocates its resources proportionately.

By resources, it means components like hard disk memory allocations, file storage, CPU cycles. It helps the CPU to unleash a process about how the CPU can be used at its best. The operating system also detects and warns about any error taking place in the system and takes necessary steps to deal with it. It also keeps an account of the computer resource usage and helps in creating statistics for further analysis. It helps in providing security and protection to the system.

But all these functions need a different class of drivers to work properly. There are different types of operating systems in the market and the most popular ones are- Apple iOS, Mac OS, Linux, and Microsoft Windows which is popularly termed as windows. The most recent version of Windows is Windows 10.

Need for Driver update

Drivers in a computer system act like the driving wheel of a car. It helps an operating system and the system to create a harmonious relationship between the two and enable the system to work seamlessly. It can be considered as a translator between the operating service and the system. It helps in creating a relation between the hardware and the application run on the system and work accordingly.

Drivers in a system are solely dependent on the command or instruction sent by an operating system and work as intended to be. In a computer, there is a communication facility known as Bus which helps the operating device and the operating system by delivering data or command from an operating system to its components and function in a particular manner so that the intended end result may come out. If there is any disturbance or delay in the delivery of the data by bus, the system is ought to be a failure, and end results will never show up as intended.

And to get rid of this inconvenience the users need to be updated on every front like updating the operating service, the drivers in the system, having good specifications like a decent amount of memory resource i.e. memory of the hard disk, memory of RAM, and a decent amount of graphics card to enable the computing device to work smoothly. But in this article, we will learn about how to update a driver in Windows 10- Operating system.

Updating driver in Windows 10

Firstly the user must have a stable internet connection in order to try and search for an update. The users have the option of both manually updating the drivers of the system and automatically updating the drivers. Both modes of updating must be clear.

In case of automatic driver updates on the system, the user has to go to the settings page of the drivers. In the search button, search for “Change Device Installation”. After getting the option and clicking on it, the system allows the user to decide whether the update process must be automatic by the window or manually by the user. The automatic update allows the system to routinely check for updates and update automatically if the updates are available.

For manually updating the drivers, the most popular procedure is through the device manager.

  •  In the search button, one has to search for device manager as “device”. The device manager window will pop up with all the list of drivers in the system.
  • Now the user has to select which of the listed drivers needs to be updated.
  • After selecting the driver, the user is given two choices; one is for automatic search by the computer for the updated version and the second is if the user has downloaded the driver update on the system already.
  • If there is an updated version of the driver available, then it will automatically update the driver, but if it doesn’t show anything that means there is no need for an update or the driver is already updated.
